About the artist, Tarsha

indigo+onyx first opened on Etsy in late 2017, where I offered my own handmade jewelry as well as accessories and goods crafted by artisans throughout the African diaspora. I’m constantly evolving, so you’re apt to see a growing variety of handcrafted items here over time.

The name of my shop was inspired by an appreciation of how the ethereal energy of indigo both complements and contrasts the earthy onyx. Likewise, I thrive on the challenge of harmoniously combining unexpected materials, colors, shapes, styles, and influences to create unique yet wearable statement pieces for everyone. I'm constantly inspired by the colors, textures, and patterns that I encounter in the most random of places. And I LOVE to salvage interesting, yet "orphaned" components from pre-loved vintage, fine, and costume jewelry and accessories, and incorporate them into one-of-a-kind designs.

More recently however, I have begun to delve move deeply into the world of textile art and thus, the “indigo” in my name has taken on a lovely new meaning. I am particularly drawn to alternative quilting techniques and soft sculpture, and hope to share my learning journey with you!
